The Mountains are Calling
April Bolduc, S Curve Strategies
It's a curious thing when you decide to take a life-changing leap. You're not sure how you're going to feel when it happens, and then in that moment of the leap you realize the feels feel rather great.
My leap was starting my own company to do what I'm passionate about. Here is the email I sent my colleagues...and they loved it.
I have some exciting news to share! I must say that Sempra Energy and SDG&E have been the most amazing and forward-thinking companies I could have asked to work for, to shape my innovative spirit. I surely wouldn't be the person I am today without rockstars like you who I listened to, created amazing programs with, asked your advice, and then asked it again. To be a part of our Clean Transportation team has been a true privilege in every way.
I'm thrilled to say that I'm taking a leap and branching out on my own. I'll still be in the EV industry, as I'm hyper-passionate about electric cars. I get excited every day about the leaps the industry is taking on a global scale. I remember when I got my first EV six years ago. The questions about driving electric were always about the limitations, and never about the possibilities. But I knew that if my friends wanted to keep driving flip-phones, so be it.
You may have never noticed, but I wear a bracelet with a famous quote from the environmentalist John Muir. He said, "The mountains are calling and I must go..."
Most don't know this quote was from a letter to Muir's sister, and only half of it. He finished with, "...and I will work on while I can, studying incessantly.” So he wasn't talking about taking a vacation. He was talking about having a responsibility to his craft. The purpose of it. Getting to it.
I know I have the momentum of the best people in the industry behind me, and there is no way I can thank you enough for that.
You guys rock.
